AI Helps Discover New Space Anomalies
The SNAD team, an international network of researchers including Matvey Kornilov, Associate Professor of the HSE University Faculty of Physics, has discovered 11 previously undetected space anomalies, seven of which are supernova candidates. The researchers analysed digital images of the Northern sky taken in 2018 using a k-D tree to detect anomalies through the ‘nearest neighbour’ method. Machine learning algorithms helped automate the search. The paper is published in New Astronomy.
Record Number of Prospective Students Apply to HSE University
HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov summed up the interim results of the admission campaign for undergraduate programmes in 2022. According to data announced at the meeting of the HSE Admissions Committee, 26,455 prospective students applied to programmes across all university campuses. This is almost 1% more than last year, when 26,257 people applied to HSE University.
HSE Lyceum Student Wins Silver at International Economics Olympiad
All five participants from Russia received awards at the Fifth International Economics Olympiad for high school students. The students won three gold and two silver awards. Dmitry Monakhov, who graduated from the HSE Lyceum this year, received a silver medal and shared his impressions of the event with the HSE News Service.
