Telling Stories Festival to Be Held outside Moscow for the First Time
The Telling Stories Festival of Creative Industries is a non-profit project created in 2018 by HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design. This summer, for the first time, the festival won’t be held in Moscow, but, instead, will unite and expand the creative communities in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan. The capital of Tatarstan will host guests on June 11th, with an exhibition, free lectures, and concerts in some of the main venues around the city.
Bachelor's Programme in Data Science and Business Analytics Accredited by AI Alliance Russia
The ‘Data Science and Business Analytics’ bachelor’s programme at HSE Faculty of Computer Science has received professional and public accreditation by the AI Alliance Russia. This is the third programme of the faculty that has received accreditation from the AI Alliance Russia, following the bachelor's programme in ‘Applied Mathematics and Information Science’ and the master’s programme in ‘Financial Technologies and Data Analysis’.

Mariam Margaryan, a graduate of the HSE University Economics and Statistics programme, HSE University lecturer, and the Fundraising Director of the Friends Foundation, says that she got into philanthropy by accident. Georgy Pashchenko, a graduate of the HSE School of Finance, was not afraid to leave his career in a large company and move to the EdTech startup Kodland that HSE ICEF graduates had founded. Egor Prokhin, Research Fellow at the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS), HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, and Valentin Novikov, Professor at the Joint Department with the Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelemental Compounds, Russian Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Chemistry, have won the Super Final of the fourth Leaders of Russia competition—a flagship project aimed at selecting Russia's presidential talent pool.
Doctoral Students Need the Support of Not Only Their Academic Supervisor, but Also of Other Faculty Staff
To successfully defend a doctoral dissertation, PhD candidates need not only the support of their academic supervisor and close friends and relatives, but also system-wide assistance from the university department or faculty where they study. However, HSE University researchers have found that such support can take different forms and that each has a different effect on how confident a student feels in their ability to successfully defend their dissertation. The results of their study were published in the journal Higher Education Quarterly.
'Our Focus Is on Joint Programmes with Universities in Siberia and the Far East'

The results of the vote were announced at the General Assembly of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), which took place from June 1-3. The newly elected Members and Corresponding Members of the RAS include eight scholars from HSE University.
From Drones to Diagnosing Dyslexia in Children: The Activities of the HSE AI Centre
The HSE Centre for Artificial Intelligence, together with its partners in industry, is working on 25 applied projects in the fields of telecommunications, finance, education, medicine, etc. The results of the work by researchers and developers were recently presented at a meeting of a Russian government working group. Even a Nonexistent Medical Label Significantly Affects the Assessment of Human Behavior
Researchers from the HSE Laboratory for the Neurobiological Foundations of Cognitive Development, Alexey Kotov, Ivan Aslanov and Yulia Sudorgina, have experimentally proved that categorical labels, including nonexistent medical terms, significantly affect people's judgments, activating semantic knowledge in memory. The study has been published in the Frontiers in Psychology journal.
