European Research Council Provides Public Funding for Research & Innovation
On Wednesday, 16 May 2018, the President of the European Research Council (ERC), Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, gave an open lecture at HSE on ‘Public funding for research & innovation: The experience of the European Research Council’. The lecture was organized by HSE together with the Delegation of the European Union to the Russian Federation.
HSE Partners with Samsung to Open IoT Samsung Academy
HSE and Samsung Electronics have signed an agreement to jointly implement the ‘IoT Samsung Academy’ programme. As part of this agreement, MIEM will start teaching specialists in the Internet of Things (IoT) from September 2018.
HSE Alumnus Appointed Minister of Digital Development
Konstantin Noskov, who received his Master’s degree from HSE University in 2001, will head the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media. He is the second HSE alumnus to join the Russian government: Maxim Oreshkin will continue to lead the Ministry of Economic Development.

The higher the unemployment rates in Western European countries, the more likely it is that socio-political destabilization will occur. At the same time, the highest levels of unemployment in Eastern European countries are accompanied by anti-government protests of very low intensity. This is just one of the conclusions made by HSE experts in their paper ‘Unemployment as a predictor of socio-political destabilization in Western and Eastern European countries’.

HSE Students Win at ‘PRactice’ Business Game
The finale of the XIV annual business game ‘PRactice’ (in Russian: PRактика) for students in advertising and public relations was recently held in Moscow, with HSE second-year students taking first place in the contest. The jury included representatives from Villagio Estate, Canon, Nestle and other prestigious companies.
Living and Working in Multicultural Moscow
In 2017, Sean Winkler joined the School of Philosophy as a research fellow. Originally from Chino Hills, California, he holds an undergraduate and Master’s degree in philosophy from Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles, California), as well as a Master’s degree and PhD from KU Leuven (Leuven, Belgium), where his dissertation focused on the work of 17th century philosopher Baruch Spinoza. In his role as a postdoctoral research fellow for the School of Philosophy at HSE, Winkler specializes in the study of early modern philosophy. Besides early modern thought, his interests span from 20th-century French continental philosophy, to critical theory, to Daoism and to philosophy of science.

These are the results of a survey of students and graduates of leading Russian universities, conducted by Changellenge>> . HSE Perm came in second and Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod campuses shared the third place in the ‘satisfaction with the quality of education’ category.
Two HSE Students Reach Finals of Career Contest for Students with Disabilities
The XI Competition for Students and Young Professionals with Disabilities was organized by the ‘Perspective’ NGO and the Disability Business Council, with the support of the Presidential Grant Foundation, Trafigura Foundation, Citi Foundation, MTS, and Coleman Services. The winners were offered internship and job offers.
Unfit: Why Seniors Don’t Care about Their Health
Seniors in Russia are not responsive to public promotion of healthy living. Their behaviours follow eight different patterns, and a healthy lifestyle is far from being the most popular one. Only 17% of elderly people live what can be termed a 'healthy' lifestyle, Elena Selezneva discovered. The results of the study were presented at the XIX April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development at HSE.
