Nanolab VR Application Wins Education Innovation Competition
This is the first project in the five-year history of the competition that is not directly related to social issues. The project’s authors will receive a travel grant and the opportunity to present their start-up anywhere in the world.
HSE Comes in 37th in QS BRICS Ranking
Academic excellence projects, similar to Russia’s Project 5-100, are common in many countries, but BRICS countries typically have the largest number of universities participating in such projects. That is perhaps why the ranking of the top universities in the five BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – prepared by the QS ranking agency is of particular interest. For two years in a row, 10 Russian universities have been steadily entering the top 50 of this ranking. This time, HSE has taken 37th place, improving its result on last year.
First Ever Kochubey Readings Take Place at HSE
On October 11-12, the HSE St. Petersburg campus hosted the first ever international Kochubey Readings, devoted to the study of private collections in Russia and around the world. The conference took place under the patronage of the Kochubey family, members of which travelled to Russia from France, Belgium, and the U.S.
HSE School of Design Students Decorate Hermès Storefront in GUM
A project by Zlata Sapko and Marina Aleksashina, third-year students of the programme in Fashion, won a competition organized by Hermès and the HSE School of Art and Design. The presentation of the project took place in GUM.
HSE Takes 6th Place in New ‘Expert’ Ranking of Entrepreneurial Universities
The new ranking of entrepreneurial universities published for the first time by the ‘Expert’ analytical centre features 38 Russian universities, 16 of which are participants in the Project 5-100. HSE took 6th place among Russian universities and 2nd place (after MIPT) among participants in the Project 5-100.
SAP Next-Gen Centre of Expertise Opens at HSE
The centre provides training for specialists in the field of digital marketing and e-commerce. Students of the centre will have the opportunity to participate in real business projects and complete an internship at companies that use SAP technologies.

Researchers Discover Brain Cortex Activity Differences in Children with Arthrogryposis
Researchers from the Higher School of Economics and the Turner Scientific and Research Institute for Children’s Orthopedics have discovered that in children with arthrogryposis, the power of electrical activity in the brain cortex decreases, while its dynamics remains the same as in healthy children. The results of the study were published in the paper ‘Characteristics of electrophysiological activity of the cerebral cortex in children with arthrogryposis’.
LSE and HSE University – St Petersburg Support Russian Historians
London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and HSE University – St Petersburg launch the Paulsen Programme, funded by the Dr Frederik Paulsen Foundation, in order to support historians in Russia who have been working on the period from the mid 17th century to 1918.
