In February 2013, the annual Russian indoor student championship in ultimate Frisbee, Flying Spin, took place in Nizhny Novgorod. The HSE team won the championship.

Russians are more concerned about material success than self-realization, in spite of a global shift from survival values to self-expression values. ‘Happiness in Russia in Comparative Perspective’, is a paper by Edouard Ponarin, Director of the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR).

Students at HSE work with the international voluntary organisation “Best buddies”, an NGO, which facilitates socialising and friendships with people who have learning difficulties. HSE student Maria Koisina told us about it.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Albania in Russia, Mr Sokol Gjoka delivered a lecture to the students and teachers of HSE on the 11th of February in the university.

On March 6^th 2013 an open discussion on ‘Freedom and Responsibility in the Public Space’ took place at the HSE.

Claire Lucien, a student from France, graduated from the HSE in 2011. She is an alumna of the double degree Master’s programme ‘International Relations in Eurasia’, a joint project with the University of Kent. Today she works as an analyst in export finance at BNP Paribas in Moscow.

Anders Borg, the Swedish Minister for Finance gave a lecture on ‘An Open and Dynamic Economy’ at the HSE during his visit to Moscow. He gave a special interview to the HSE portal.

The popularity of this year’s Winter School at the HSE Department of Public Policy can be seen in the numbers. 72 international participants applied for it on time, and 17 more sent their applications in after the deadline.
