HSE has become one of three Russian universities to receive maximum points for the implementation of the Russian Academic Excellence Project. These results were announced following a meeting of the Council on Enhancing the Competitiveness of Leading Russian Universities among the Global Rresearch and Education Centres.
HSE Doctoral Graduate Becomes an Assistant Professor at a University Abroad
Anna Sokolova, who completed her PhD at the HSE Doctoral School of Economics and is an instructor in the Department of Theoretical Economics, has been offered a position as an Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, demonstrating the high demand for graduates of HSE doctoral programmes on the international academic job market.
HSE Team to Take Part in CFA Institute Research Challenge in Prague
For the third consecutive year, an HSE team trained by lecturers from the HSE’s Banking Institute is among the winners of the Russian stage of CFA IRC and will now go on to take part in the regional EMEA championship in Prague.
Can Nicotine Help to Treat Schizophrenia?
Several studies have indicated that schizophrenic patients are likely to show high levels of nicotine dependence. Scientists from Higher School of Economics (HSE), Institut Pasteur, the CNRS, Inserm and the ENS employed a mouse model to elucidate how nicotine influences cells in the prefrontal cortex. They visualized how nicotine has a direct impact on the restoration of normal activity in nerve cells (neurons) involved in psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. These findings were published in a paper that appeared in the journal Nature Medicine.
Examining Gender Discrimination in Labour Markets
This year’s April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development, taking place from April 11-14 at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, will cover the most pressing issues relating to Russia’s social and economic development. This year, gender issues are addressed in a number of presentations, including during a special session entitled ‘Gender, socialization, ageism’ taking place on the morning of April 13.
HSE Students to Develop Projects for Dutch Companies
HSE School of Business Informatics has joined with Hogeschool Rotterdam to launch a new type of project work for undergraduate students. Three student teams will be involved in developing real information systems for Dutch companies from February to May.
HSE Students Win Oliver Wyman Impact Case Competition
Angelina Volosevich, Marina Goncharenko, Tamerlan Tuaev and Malika Shaikhutdinova, first-year students from the 'Strategic Corporate Finance' Master’s programme have won ‘Oliver Wyman Impact 2017’, a business case competition that was held on March 3rd at the Ararat Park Hyatt Hotel, Moscow.
HSE Presented Development Roadmap to Project 5-100 International Council
On March 17, 2017, a regular meeting of the Russian Academic Excellence Project 5-100 Council on Competitiveness Enhancement of Leading Russian Universities took place in Moscow. HSE representatives told the Council, which includes international experts, about the University’s achievements following the implementation of the first half of the Project. They also discussed their upcoming development plans.
HSE Art and Design School Presented its Collection at Mercedes−Benz Fashion Week for Third Time
This collection by the HSE Art and Design School students resulted from a mutual effort by designers from the undergraduate and master’s courses. The theme of the collection is ‘Klub Zavtra’ – ‘Tomorrow Club’. Students worked as designers, models and organizers in the show.
HSE Students Analysed Moscow Parks’ Performance
What should Moscow parks be like – multi-functional public spaces or places where locals can go for a walk? What activities and infrastructure do parks lack and what should be changed in how they operate? HSE students tried to address these issues as they presented their ‘Park and Visitor’ survey on February 28, 2017, at Mosgorpark (Moscow city park authority).
