The 3rd National Forum of Research Communicators came to a close in St. Petersburg with the traditional announcement of the Communication Laboratory Award winners. HSE University was awarded the Grand Prix for its high standards of communication in all fields.

Anthropological Pirouette
For a long time, it was mainly art and theatre critics who wrote for a wide audience about dance from a spectator’s perspective. Later, philosophers and ethnographers began to study dance from different angles. But only when people with first-hand experience, i.e. dancers, joined in, did dance and movement studies get off to a real start. Times Higher Education Young Universities Summit to Be Held in Moscow for the First Time
On June 24-26, 2020, the THE Young Universities Summit will be held for the first time at HSE University in Moscow. An official hand off ceremony was held earlier at the University of Surrey, which hosted the event this year. It was not by chance that HSE University was selected to be next year’s summit host—it is the only Russian university that consistently ranks among the THE top 100 young universities, and this year it took 60th place.
Russian and French Scholars Present Research on Soviet History at Graduate Seminar
The International Centre for the History and Sociology of World War II and its Consequences at HSE University held a Graduate Student Seminar in Soviet History together with Sciences Po (France) on June 17 – 18, 2019. HSE News Service spoke with participants and instructors of the seminar, which examinedthe impact of WWII on the Soviet Union and surrounding regions, as well as aspects of the Soviet system from Stalin up to the 1980s.
HSE University to Launch First Experimental Physics Laboratories
The HSE University competition committee has announced the winners of an international competition for new physics laboratory proposals. Two proposed projects were selected: the Laboratory of van der Waals Heterostructures, headed by Davit Ghazaryan, and the Laboratory of Nanophotonics and Functional Materials, headed by Andrey Krasavin.
Researchers Propose New Approach to Post-Stroke Rehabilitation
The existing approach to brain stimulation for rehabilitation after a stroke does not take into account the diversity of lesions and the individual characteristics of patients’ brains. This was the conclusion made by researchers of the Higher School of Economics and the Max Planck Institute of Cognitive Sciences in their article, ‘Predicting the Response to Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation in Stroke’.
HSE Ranks Among Top 60 Best Young Universities Worldwide in THE Ranking
In 2019 the Higher School of Economics has climbed from 84th to 60th place in the Time Higher Education (THE) world ranking of young universities. HSE University is the only Russian university to place in the top 100 of this ranking.

On June 24-25, HSE University held the international academic conference, ‘The 1990s: A Social History of Russia’ organized by International Center for the History and Sociology of World World War II and its Consequences, the Boris Yeltsin Center, the Egor Gaider Foundation, and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. HSE University Expands Number of Subjects in the Shanghai Ranking
HSE University has retained its position in the Top 100 of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, otherwise known as the Shanghai Ranking, in sociology and mathematics. The university improved in political science and has also placed in the same group in economics. At the same time, HSE moved to the next group in management and entered new subject areas – psychology and business administration. HSE is the only Russian university ranked in four subjects: Sociology, Management, Business Administration, and Political Science. HSE University is Russia’s leader in economics and ranks in the same group as Moscow State University in mathematics.
