On 3-4 December 2014 the inaugural BRICS and Emerging Economies Universities Summit will take place in Moscow. On 3 December the HSE will host its ‘Russian Universities Day’.
Children of Perestroika Afraid to Spend Money
Middle-aged Russians whose younger years fell in the era of change fear for their future and tend to save more money than they spend. In contrast, Russia's elderly and young adults are avid consumers: the former have survived hardship and scarcity – potential loss does not scare them, while the latter share the inherent optimism of youth, according to the paper 'Consumer Expectations of the Russian Public (1996-2009): Interconnections across Cohorts, Generations, and Ages' by Dilyara Ibragimova, Senior Researcher at the HSE's Laboratory for Studies in Economic Sociology.

Stateless Nations in Europe: Scotland and Catalonia
On November 26, 2014 on the invitation of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs Professor Luis Moreno Fernandez of the Spanish National Research Council gave a talk on Stateless Nations in Western Europe. The lecture was part of the first session of the European Club launched by the Faculty this year.
HSE Alumnus Named Russia’s Entrepreneur of the Year
Alexei Repik, who received his bachelor’s degree from HSE’s Faculty of Economics, was named the winner of the Russia nomination in the international competition Entrepreneur of the Year 2014. Repik is the President of Delovaya Rossiya (Business Russia) and the Chairman of the board of directors at the R-Pharm group.

On December 1, HSE celebrated another anniversary and, according to tradition, awarded the best teachers, researchers, administrative staff, and students with the Golden HSE prize.
‘Nature and the System’ Student Exhibition Opens at Myasnitskaya 11
On November 28, an exhibition of works by second-year students in the HSE School of Design – ‘Nature and the System’ – opened in honour of the Higher School of Economics’ anniversary. In their works, students were to reflect the relationship between these two categories.

Polish Ambassador to Russia Gives Lecture at Higher School of Economics
Polish Ambassador to Russia Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz visited Nizhny Novgorod to give a lecture to HSE students. The topic of the lecture was ’25 years of Polish Transformation. Regional Reform as a Means of Success for Changes in Poland.’
