HSE University is launching Class Experience, a programme designed for international students who are interested in learning more about master’s studies at HSE University. The programme application period begins on October 22. Once accepted to the programme, participants can attend lectures offered by all four campuses of HSE University to see firsthand what studying at HSE University is like.

The new model, created by computational social scientist Ivan Smirnov of HSE University, predicts the academic success of Russian high school students with an accuracy of 94%. The model generates its predictions based on users’ distinctive vocabulary and speech patterns, and the predictions have strongly correlated with students’ Unified State Exam (USE) scores.

The works are dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of Bauhaus and VKHUTEMAS—the two main art schools of the 20^th century that formed the cradle of the European and Russian avant-garde and world design. The posters, which will be on display at the HSE ART GALLERY until November 1, were designed by nominated artists of the Biennale.

On October 23 – 24, 2020, the IX International Moscow Finance Conference will take place. The event has been organized jointly by ICEF and the London School of Economics. This year, the list of participants includes the editors of the two biggest journals in economics. Alexei Boulatov , Tenured Professor of HSE University, spoke about how the online format influenced the quality of academic events, what has changed in academic life over the last few months, and the topics that interest researchers today.

On November 6, Artigit’l, an online art residence, begins. This is a free international programme for artists, arts lovers, software developers and people working in the digital sphere. The HSE University Department of Innovation Management is one of the residency organizers.

HSE University has improved its positions in the US News Best Global Universities institutional and subject rankings. For the first time, the University ranks among the top 100 universities in the world for mathematics. HSE is also the only Russian university in the subject rankings of Economics and Business and Social Sciences and Public Health, placing among the top 300 in both categories.

According to Natalia Tikhonova, a social scientist with HSE University, gender asymmetry has been on the rise in Russia's labour market over the past 20 years. Gender asymmetry is reflected in the ‘feminisation’ of white-collar jobs and a disproportionate number of men among blue-collar workers. In addition to this, increasing automation in traditionally male industrial sectors is leading to fewer jobs available to men. In contrast, occupations with a growing demand for skills tend to be those which are mainly filled by women.
