The Second International Conference ‘East and West in the New Transformation Phase: Asia Encountering the Challenges Of Deglobalization’ will be held from December 16-17, 2020. According to Vera Vishnyakova, Head of theFaculty of World Economy and International Affairs School of International Regional Studies, it will be the first event to discuss the most pressing questions in contemporary international regional studies.
Weeping Men: Why Misandry Flourishes in Russian Society
Although Russia has traditionally been a patriarchal society, misandry—the sharp criticism of men, or ‘reverse sexism’—is on the rise. Women accuse men of every possible sin, from acting aggressively to being too passive at work and home, and from narcissism to general indifference. In a pilot study, HSE University researchers studied misandry in the women of two different generations.
HSE’s Digital Transformation Achievements Presented at Yandex Conference
On September 23– 25, Yandex held the Yandex Scale 2020 conference on new digital products and services. The conference included practical sessions on machine learning, data processing, analysis and other topics, as well as cases of the company’s customers and partners. One such case, concerning the evolution of a digital university, was presented by Alexey Chukarin, HSE University’s Senior Director for Digital Transformation.
Two Additional HSE – Moscow Programmes Receive International ZEvA Accreditation
The Central Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation (ZEvA) determined that the HSE Bachelor’s programme in ‘Sociology’ and the HSE Master’s programme in ‘Comparative Social Research’ meet international educational quality standards. Both programmes have been accredited unconditionally for six years.
HSE University and the Russian Football Union Sign Memorandum of Cooperation
HSE University and the Football Union of Russia (FUR)have agreed to conduct joint scientific and technological research and events. The Memorandum of Cooperation and Collaboration was signed by HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov and FUR Head Alexander Alaev. One of the most urgent projects will be the development of a system for appointing referees to matches.
2020 iCare Participants Discuss the Economic Effects of the Pandemic, the Accessibility of Higher Education in Russia, and More
On September 21, the VIII International Conference on Applied Research in Economics (iCare) was held online, bringing together more than 100 researchers from 19 countries. Organizers, speakers, teachers, and students shared their impressions of the event and talked about the opportunities that the conference opens up for them.
Loving-Kindness Mediation Will Make You Happier Than Compassion Meditation
Researchers from HSE University compared the effect of two meditation practices – loving-kindness meditation (LKM) and compassion meditation (CM). Loving-kindness meditation turned out to be more effective when it comes to increasing happiness, but, in contrast with previous studies, compassion meditation also did not result in a growth of negative emotions. The paper was published in Mindfulness journal.
HSE Art Gallery Opens Third Exhibition Season
The gallery is celebrating its return from working from home to regular offline life with the recently opened exhibition ‘NOW’. This exhibition displays graduation projects by nine graduates of the programme in Design and Contemporary Art.
Five HSE Master's Programmes Included in Top 100 of QS Business Masters Rankings
This year, the Master’s Programme ‘Strategic Management in Logistics’, offered by the HSE Graduate School of Business, ranked 34th in the Supply Chain Management Programme ranking, a new addition to the QS Business Masters Rankings. This is the fifth HSE programme to be included the QS Business Rankings. Four others have ranked among the top 100 for several years now.
