First Enrollment at HSE Faculty of Physics
This year the first enrollment was held at HSE Faculty of Physics: since September 26 bachelor’s and 14 master’s students will start their studies at the faculty. They received student ID cards as well as promises to study in creative atmosphere with assistance.

Rudolf Laiko and Sophia Tolstoukhova have applied deep learning methods to solving immunological issues that could contribute to the further development of personalized medicine. The results of their research were presented at the International Conference ISMB/ECCB 2017 focused on the application of intelligent systems in molecular biology.

‘I Am Who I Am, Only with a Magic Wand…’
Oksana Osadchaya, a blind sophomore in the undergraduate philology programme, has developed a version of braille for Old Russian texts. Oksana recently defended her thesis on the subject. Together with her academic advisor Alexey Gippius, Oksana met with the HSE News Service to discuss her work, as well as the opportunities that she has opened up for blind researchers who study texts in Old Russian, Old Slavonic, and Old Church Slavonic.
Students from HSE Computer Science Faculty Win BlockchainHack Hackathon
BlockchainHack, Russia's largest hackathon focusing on the development of block chain projects, took place in Moscow on the 1st and 2nd of July. Seniors from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science took home the grand prize of $50,000.

HSE Graduate School of Urbanism and D’est Organize Joint Summer School in France
The HSE Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urbanism together with the French association D’est are organizing a joint summer school this year in France. The School will run from June 25 – July 8, 2017 in Paris and Montpellier and aims to attract students and young professionals in urban development and planning, municipal administration, and civil initiatives.
HSE Students Come in Second at ICC Moot Court Competition
On May 19th, 2017, students of the HSE Faculty of Law took second place in the final round of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition which took place in The Hague. One of the HSE students won the award for best speaker in the finals.
HSE Students Succeeded in Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot
This year, the team of HSE Faculty of Law participated in two competitions at the same time — in Vienna and in Hong Kong. Ekaterina Nuzhdova, Maria Zinovieva, Evgeny Puchkov and Polina Sizikova represented HSE in Vienna. Ksenia Solovyova, Aleksander Zhdanovich, Elsa Dauletshina and Konstantin Vashchenko took part in the contest in Hong Kong.
Students Examine Cybersecurity Contextualization in Russia and the United States
Students from HSE ISSEK, Stanford University, and Rice University have researched how Russia and the US cooperate in cybersecurity and explored the nuances present in the approaches that each country takes in this area, including different understandings of cybersecurity-related terms. The research was conducted in 2016-2017 as part of the Stanford US-Russia Forum (SURF), a programme dedicated to developing US-Russia cooperation. Over a period of 8 months, 30 American and Russian students and young professionals worked on their projects.
