How to Find Your Sensei at HSE
A new mentoring programme has kicked off at HSE that gives students the opportunity to choose an HSE graduate to be their ‘sensei’. These can be people who have already evolved professionally in their field or who have implemented a business idea similar to that of their mentees. This programme continues HSE’s long tradition of senior students helping their younger peers. Below are several stories recalling successful university mentoring at HSE.

A mentoring programme has been launched at HSE that combines graduate experience with student aspirations for professional development. Mentees will pick up on life hacks which are essential for survival in any industry.
‘HSE Science Battles’ Receives Special Prize at ‘Silver Archer’ Award
On February 16, the ‘Silver Archer’ prizes were awarded in Moscow. HSE Science Battles, a project designed by HSE students, made it to the top three in the ‘Technologies of the Future’ category. It was also judged ‘best project’ in this category by the student jury, and was awarded a special prize by Russian Venture Company, the category’s partner.
Fewer People in Corporations, but More Promising Careers in Research
On February 12, the winners of the Student Research Paper Competition were announced. Not only did they receive prizes, but also had the opportunity to put some thought-provoking questions to the university administration. HSE Students and Alumna Awarded S&T Grants
On February 8, the winners of the UMNIK competition were announced. The programme, run by the Small S&T Enterprises Assistance Fund, promotes young researchers’ innovation projects. Two HSE students and one HSE alumna will receive grants of 500,000 rubles to carry out research and further develop their S&T projects.
HSE Students Turn Books and Museums into Transmedia Stories
For two years in a row, students in the Master’s programme in Transmedia Production in Digital Industries have worked closely with publishing and museum experts, as well as lecturers from the HSE School of Media to reinvent the role of printed books and the traditional tasks of Russian museums. Some of their book projects were presented at the Non-fiction exhibition this year, and the museum projects will be implemented for the public.
HSE Student Won European Rapid Chess Championship
Maksim Vavulin, third-year student in the HSE/NES Programme in Economics, has won a major chess competition in Katowice (Poland).
HSE Students Win Hackathon Held by McKinsey and Gett
The MacDacHack team, which includes HSE students and one alumna, recently won a Big Data hackathon held by McKinsey and Gett.
HSE Students Organise First MLH Hackathon in Russia
Major League Hacking (MLH) holds its events around the world, but this year is the first time MLH Local Hack Day is taking place in Russia thanks to the initiative of students from the Higher School of Economics. Participants of the hackathon developed IT solutions for some of Russia’s largest companies.
