Educational Studies Journal Enters Scopus Q1
Educational Studies, an academic journal founded by HSE University in 2004, has become the first Russian journal to enter the first quartile in Education in Scopus. This success relies on high requirements and thorough selection of publications, when the editorial board tries to select not just good papers, but particularly innovative studies.
The updated Scimago quartiles were published on May 17, 2021 (SJR 2020, Scopus quartiles). Educational Studies has entered the first quartile (Q1) for the first time. Now, there are two HSE journals in Q1. The previous HSE journal to be categorized as Q1 was Foresight, which has been published since 2007. A total of 34 Russian journals are in Q1. In addition, Educational Studies ranks sixth in terms of the SJR indicator (the ranking that is used for quartile assignment) among over 500 Russian journals.
Educational Studies has the highest ranking among Russian journals in education. Most journals published by HSE University have promoted or retained their positions in the SJR quartiles.

When we were creating this journal back in 2004, we, of course, could not imagine that 16 years later it would become a leading educational studies journal in Russia and would become internationally recognized. I believe the secret of success is simple. We try to set high requirements for the papers, even if they are written by members of the editorial board. Furthermore, we try to select not just good papers, but particularly interesting studies, which will be read and cited by other researchers.
