HSE Urban Fest Gathers Urban Development Researchers
On September 12th, Urban Fest was held at HSE University. Students, staff and guests of the HSE University learned what revitalization means in the context of urbanism and why every conscious citizen should delve into this process. The participants immersed themselves in the study of the urban environment, listened to lectures from experts and visited a fair of HSE student organisations.

HSE University Study: Domestic Travel Services Prove Their Competitiveness
HSE University’s Institute for Public Administration and Governance (IPAG) has conducted a proactive independent study of digital travel services. Based on the results of this, a rating of 40 tourism platforms was compiled. The platforms were assessed according to 75 parameters. The ratings include those platforms that, in addition to hotel booking services, provide a set of additional options for tourists, are also present in various industry lists, and are often mentioned in media reviews.

An international consortium of research organisations from China, India, and Russia, including HSE University’s Faculty of Urban and Regional Development represented by experts from the Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urban Studies and Planning and the Centre for Social Research and Technological Innovation (CITY), is developing an index of technological and spatial urban development (the Urban & Innovation Environment Index). Recently, a list of the top 10 largest cities of the BRICS countries was published on the project’s website. The Russian capital took the first place in the ranking, followed by Beijing, Shanghai, Sao Paulo, and Guangzhou.
Winner of International Olympiad in Informatics 2023 Enrolled in HSE University FCS Programme
Valery Rodionov, member of the Russian team who took gold at the 2023 International Olympiad in Informatics, has enrolled at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. The intellectual competition took place in early September in Hungary.
Faculty of Economic Sciences Holds Math BootCamps for Those Starting Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees
More than 200 future bachelor’s and master’s students from around the world spent the last two weeks of summer improving their mathematical knowledge and honing their problem-solving skills. The free online classes have been held for the fourth year in a row. They allow first-year students not only to succeed in their studies, research, and project activities at HSE University’s Faculty of Economic Sciences (FES), but also to quickly integrate into the international community of students, graduates, and teachers.
‘Interest in the Application of Machine Learning in Bioinformatics Is Growing by the Year’
On August 28–30, HSE University’s Faculty of Computer Science held the 4th Summer School on Machine Learning in Bioinformatics. This year, 670 people registered for the event, and over 300 visited in person. The programme included lectures and seminars on various spheres of bioinformatics: applied bioinformatics and the bioinformatics of DNA, RNA, and proteins; elementary genomics; modern methods of data analysis and molecular biology. The lectures were complemented by practical tasks aimed at different levels of knowledge.
Demand for Master’s Degrees in Data Science Quadruples Since Last Year
According to analytics from HSE University’s online campus, the demand for the Master of Data Science online Master’s programme has quadrupled, and the number of applicants doubled compared to last year (more than 250 students). Data science ranks first in demand among all HSE master’s degree programmes taught online.
