HSE University and Italian Embassy Sign Agreement on Internships for Italian Students
On September 20, HSE University Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic Pasquale Terracciano signed a cooperation agreement between the Embassy of Italy and HSE University.
According to the agreement, which was signed at an event held at the Italian Embassy, Italian citizens who are enrolled as students at HSE University will be able to complete an internship at the Italian Embassy. According to Pasquale Terracciano, the agreement will allow them to get to learn about diplomatic work first hand. ‘We are opening our doors to the best, most outstanding Italian students who study at one of the most prestigious and progressive universities in Russia and the world,’ the Ambassador said.
I hope that this agreement will be a cornerstone for our further cooperation in building new opportunities for future students and researchers
Yaroslav Kuzminov in turn noted that this agreement represents a new stage of cooperation between HSE University and Italy. Last year, 129 Italian citizens studied at the university, and in 2019, the number of Italian enrolees increased by 20. Now HSE’s Italian students have the opportunity to complete an internship at their country’s embassy.
In addition, HSE University scholars work on joint research projects with scholars from Italian universities. In 2019, the HSE Basic Research Programme has supported 24 research projects with Italian experts’ participation. HSE University is expanding its cooperation with 28 Italian universities. Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, for example, opened an information centre at HSE University this summer.
Rector Kuzminov emphasized that the agreement not only marks the beginning of cooperation between HSE University and the Italian Embassy, but will reinforce research ties between the countries: ‘I see today’s event not only as the start of a new programme, but more importantly, as a project to expand Russian-Italian cooperation in education and research. This is one more step forward that will add to the trust between our countries, and add to the movement towards a united Europe, which both of us are part of.’
Yaroslav Kuzminov also invited Pasquale Terracciano to visit the new HSE building on Pokrovsky Boulevard. At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged gifts: the Rector and Ambassador gave each other books.
