Professor Ludo Pyis Launches New Lecture Series ‘AREOPA: Provoking Innovate Intelligence’
February 27 marked the launch of a lecture series ‘AREOPA: provoking innovate intelligence’ to be delivered for HSE-Perm Master’s students by Professor Ludo Pyis through March 6. Professor Pyis is an instructor at Management Centre Europe in Brussels, Belgium. He has served as a visiting professor at universities in countries such as Belgium, Switzerland, Thailand, France, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, and Turkey, and he has worked for companies such as Hewlett Packard and General Motors. In 1992, he founded AREOPA, a management consulting group specializing in change management, intellectual capital accounting, and learning and knowledge management.
On February 27, second-year students of the Master’s in Finance programme met with Professor Pyis. It is worth mentioning his lecturing approach: he explains material by referring not to theory and abstract notions but rather to his own personal experience. This teaching method allows students to see how such real life situations might develop, thus adding to their understanding of the market and reinforcing their skills as future specialists.
Professor Pyis also shared his view on contemporary economics. He compared economics with psychology, which involves interpersonal relationships within a team working towards a common goal of making money. In order to understand economics, you need to know more than just theory. Economics means practice, practice and practice. You will never become a professional unless you plunge into it, he said.
The format of the event offered a communication friendly environment, encouraging questions, lively debate, and even jokes on the part of students.
