HSE and Shanghai University sign a new cooperation agreement
The HSE and the ECNU - East China Normal University in Shanghai have agreed on a mutual student exchange programme. Documents were signed by Sergei Karaganov, Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE, and Feng Shaolei, Dean of the Faculty of Advanced International and Area Studies at ECNU at the closing ceremony of the III International Russia-China Summer School on International Relations, “Individual and State Responsibility in the 21st Century”. Zhao Gochen, the Plenipotentiary Minister Advisor on Education at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow, was also present.
To get the exchange programme started, three students from either side will travel to Russia or China as soon as 2014. The plan is to put a lot into developing the programme to get more and more people involved. In the longer term, the aim is to create a double diploma programme between the two universities.
The HSE and the ECNU have been working together closely since 2011 when the International Russia-China Summer School in International Relations began. The idea of bringing Russian and Chinese students together to talk face to face about important international issues hasn’t been tried out anywhere else in Russia. The summer school students had exclusive access to lectures by leading Russian and Chinese professors of World economy and international affairs. It has become a tradition to include three lectures by professors from ECNU.
Over three years more than 100 Russian and Chinese students have been to the Summer School. This year, when it took place in Moscow from 4th - 11th July, the School was a centre of lively discussion both during and after lectures.
The Deputy to the Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs on strategic planning and PhD courses, Timofei Bordachev said, “I can safely say that the Summer School is up and running, intellectually and organisationally. Now we have to make the School “self-sustainable”, in other words, we need to shape the mechanisms which will allow it to sustain itself. The main task is to get the student organisations involved, particularly the students’ academic club in our faculty.”
Here’s what some of the Summer School students have to say....
«It’s a great pleasure for me to be here in Moscow to attend the Summer School held jointly by HSE and ECNU. I really appreciate the hospitality of teachers and fellows in HSE.
