Introduction to Cross-Cultural Psychology
On December 6, Prof. Fons van de Vijver (Tilburg University, the Netherlands), took part in the "Culture Matters" research seminar with the report on "Introduction to Cross-Cultural Psychology".
Prof. van de Vijver given a lecture based on main theories and models in cross-cultural psychology. He started with the description of this sphere, showed how it has modified from 1992 till now.
The main goals of cross-cultural psychology were be raised. Prof. van de Vijver told about what problems researchers came across in early approaches and how new studies solve them. What Eysenck’s Model of Personality and “Big Five”/Five-Factor Model of Personality measure and why they are important in cross-cultural perspective.
He also told about different assessments of values, peculiarities of family values and their universal character and cultural specifics of clinical psychology.
