The Academic Council of HSE University has established three new educational programmes. For the first time, in 2025, HSE University in St. Petersburg will enrol students in the Bachelor's programme in ‘Texts, Languages, and Digital Tools‘ and the Master's programme in ‘Applied Linguistics: Foreign Language Teaching and Translation in the Digital Environment,’ and at HSE University in Moscow—in the Master's programme ‘Producer in the Music Industry.’

Ancient Egyptians Were Less Afraid of Death Than Commonly Believed

Ekaterina Alexandrova, Academic Supervisor of the Egyptology programme at HSE University, has studied the funerary practices of ancient Egyptians based on religious texts and the works of Egyptologists from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Traditionally, it was believed that Egyptian religion was built solely on the fear of death. However, an analysis of texts reveals that ancient Egyptian beliefs were not merely reflections of a fear of death, but a complex system aimed at preserving order and stability both in life and the afterlife. The study has been published in the journal Shagi/Steps.

Georgy Khvatkin, first-year student of ICEF International Bachelor’s Programme in Economics and Finance, won gold at the World Cadet, Youth and Junior Sambo Championship. Georgy proved his superiority in the 98 kg weight category. Double Winner of the International Olympiad in Informatics Admitted to HSE Faculty of Computer Science

Ivan Piskarev, a member of the Russian national team who won gold at both 2023 and 2024 International Olympiads in Informatics (IOI), has enrolled in the bachelor's programme ‘Applied Mathematics and Information Science’ at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. He first won the competition in September 2023 in Hungary, and then again in September 2024 in Egypt.

Open Air for Aspiring Experts in International Affairs: Internships in Africa, Mobility in Brazil

In early July, the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (WEIA) on Malaya Ordynka hosted the annual Open Air Festival of its bachelor's programmes. In a relaxed atmosphere of the inner courtyard, guests interacted with WEIA administrators, faculty members, students, and graduates. Chinese characters and ice cream, origami and photo sessions, Portuguese desserts and Korean souvenirs, Turkish sweets, and African stickers were just a fraction of what guests could taste, enjoy, or win in quizzes testing their knowledge of the world.
