HSE Students Develop Programmes to Help Treat Immune System Disorders
Rudolf Laiko and Sophia Tolstoukhova have applied deep learning methods to solving immunological issues that could contribute to the further development of personalized medicine. The results of their research were presented at the International Conference ISMB/ECCB 2017 focused on the application of intelligent systems in molecular biology.

HSE Researchers Use Neural Networks for Odour Recognition
Researchers from the HSE Laboratory of Space Research, Technologies, Systems and Processes have applied fast-learning artificial intelligence to odour recognition andpatented a handy electronic-nose device capable of recognising the olfactory patterns of a wide range of chemicals. In addition to discriminating between different gas mixtures, the electronic nose will be able to capture and memorise new smells. According to HSE scientists, the product of their research is likely to benefit both security services and members of the public.
Students from HSE Computer Science Faculty Win BlockchainHack Hackathon
BlockchainHack, Russia's largest hackathon focusing on the development of block chain projects, took place in Moscow on the 1st and 2nd of July. Seniors from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science took home the grand prize of $50,000.
HSE Doctoral Students Receive Presidential Grants
Elizaveta Sysoeva (Doctoral School of History) and Alexander Suvalko (Doctoral School of Philosophy), doctoral students at the HSE Faculty of Humanities, have received grants from the Russian President to study abroad in the academic year 2017/18.
HSE Students Come in Second at ICC Moot Court Competition
On May 19th, 2017, students of the HSE Faculty of Law took second place in the final round of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition which took place in The Hague. One of the HSE students won the award for best speaker in the finals.
HSE Students Succeeded in Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot
This year, the team of HSE Faculty of Law participated in two competitions at the same time — in Vienna and in Hong Kong. Ekaterina Nuzhdova, Maria Zinovieva, Evgeny Puchkov and Polina Sizikova represented HSE in Vienna. Ksenia Solovyova, Aleksander Zhdanovich, Elsa Dauletshina and Konstantin Vashchenko took part in the contest in Hong Kong.

Every year, global management consultancy McKinsey & Company holds a competition for Next Generation Women Leaders. This year, 54 talented individuals from across the world have been selected to take part in the contest, four of whom are from Russia.
HSE Students Win International D&AD New Blood Contest
Anna Dmitrieva and Sophia Verlina, third-year students at the HSE Art and Design School (curators Stefan Lashko and Ivan Yakushev) have been recognized as winners in the international design competition D&AD New Blood. They will receive their awards on June 6, 2017.
HSE Student Elizaveta Kuzmenko Receives Google's Women Techmakers Scholarship
Google announced the recepients of its several scholarship programs, including the Women Techmakers Scholarship (formerly the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship). Among this year's winners Elizaveta Kuzmenko, 1st year student on the Computational Linguistics MA programme at the HSE School of linguistics.
