International Lessons in Cyber Law

HSE’s international summer school on cyber law took place for its third time this year and saw the participation of young academics from Russia, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, Armenia, India and a number of other countries. Invited experts included Gaetano Dimita of Queen Mary University of London, Giovanni Riccio of the University of Salerno, and David Bernstein from IBM Israel.

Russian Food Embargo to Hit Business and Society

In the coming months, Russia’s embargo on food from western countries could result in decreased consumption for the low-income groups of society and a drop in the quality of the consumer basket for mid- and high-income groups, experts from HSE’s Centre of Development said in the latest issue of Comments on State and Business.

HSE Scholar Recognized at Academy of Management Annual Meeting

From August 1-5, the Academy of Management h­eld its 74th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA). The Annual Meeting is the premier conference for more than 10,000 academics, and professionals in the scholarly management and organization field. This year it was attended by a delegation of eight representatives from the Higher School of Economics.

Highlights from 4 th LCSR Summer School

The 4th Summer School of the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) was centered around Categorical Data Analysis and saw the participation of more than 40 junior academics from universities and research centres of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Italy, Germany, Poland, Romania, Israel and the U.S.

Russian Statistics Unhelpful in Predicting Future

Russian statistics are scarce, inaccurate, ormissing – and therefore misleading, rather than helpful. Their limited temporal depth makes any reliable long-term projections of the country's socio-economic development impossible, according to the report 'Russian Statistics: What Do They Preserve for History?' by Vladimir Bessonov, Head of the HSE’s Laboratory for Research in Inflation and Growth.

HSE Professors on How to Protect Spaceships

At the end of July, Professor Andrey Tyutnev of HSE’s Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics  (MIEM) became the only Russian presenter at the13th Spacecraft Charging Technology Conference organized in California under the auspices of NASA. Professor Tyutnev presented two reports prepared with colleagues from the Higher School of Economics and the Lavochkin Research and Production Association.

HSE Professor Christian Welzel awarded 2014 Stein Rokkan Prize

Christian Welzel, leading professor at the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) HSE St Petersburg received the 2014 Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research in recognition of his book «Freedom Rising: Human Empowerment and the Quest for Emancipation».
