One of the most popular minors that HSE University students can choose in their second and third years is 'Startup from Scratch'. With the teachers’ support, students launch their own business projects, including startups for the production and sale of souvenirs and cosmetics, which can serve as unique New Year gifts.

Forbes Russia Education talked to HSE University’s new Rector, Nikita Anisimov, about the key difficulties and challenges facing the university, areas of future development, the unique culture of Russian universities and whether a change of administration impacts it, whether universities should change in response to the times, the importance of internationalization and its use to students. This December, HSE University’s Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities hosted Professor Juliane Fürst, from Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History, who gave a lecture about Soviet hippies and the Soviet Flower Power. HSE academics joined researchers from the Turner Scientific Research Institute for Children's Orthopaedics to study how the brains of children with arthrogryposis control elbow flexion after muscle transplantation. They found that in such patients, more motor neuron activity occurs, which means that the start of a new movement requires more effort from the brain. The paper ‘Feasibility and Challenges of Performing Magnetoencephalography Experiments in Children with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita’ was published in Frontiers in Pediatrics.
