HSE University—St Petersburg Hosts a Discussion on Russian-Congolese Cooperation in Education
On June 29, 2024, the President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso visited St Petersburg as part of his official visit to Russia. He spoke at the meeting of the Academic Council of HSE University—St Petersburg. The participants discussed Russian-Congolese cooperation in education.
Denis Sassou Nguesso stressed that HSE University is one of the leading universities in education and research in economics and humanities, and this fact is recognised internationally.
‘Your educational programmes and opportunities for professional development, as well as mobility and internship programmes, immerse students in a professional environment, providing them with both theoretical and practical knowledge. This helps your students become significant experts in various countries. Your university also places great importance on cultural cooperation, supporting foreign students, including those coming from Africa,’ noted the President of the Republic of Congo.
In turn, the Director of HSE University—St Petersburg, Anna Tyshetskaya, added that it is important for the university to build systematic interaction with African countries in the educational sphere. HSE University-St Petersburg considers the visit of the President of Congo as a starting point for building strong and constructive relationships.
‘Over the course of our long-term cooperation, more than 8,000 citizens of the Republic of Congo have been educated in our country. International cooperation in such promising areas as education, artificial intelligence and high-tech developments, and culture is important for Russian education,’ she noted.
During the meeting, the significance of interaction with the Republic of Congo was emphasised.
‘It is a great honour for us to welcome the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, in Saint Petersburg. Your contribution to peacekeeping activities, especially in resolving internal political conflicts in the Central African Republic, is highly appreciated in our country. We hope to develop productive cooperation with the Republic of Congo in humanitarian and educational projects,’ said Anna Tyshetskaya.
In recognition of his contribution to the development of humanitarian initiatives, as a sign of respect and friendship, the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, was assigned with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from HSE University. The President of the Republic of Congo thanked the university for the conferred title.
Anna Tyshetskaya also announced that as part of the development of interaction with African countries, an academic mission from HSE University will soon take place in several African countries, including the Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Ethiopia. During the reciprocal trip, it is planned to sign several cooperation agreements between HSE University and these countries.
