Enhancing Cooperation between the Countries: East China Normal University Delegation Visits HSE
The delegation of the East China Normal University has visited HSE University’s Moscow campus. The representatives of both academic institutions confirmed their mutual interest in developing cooperation. The East China Normal University was the first Chinese institution to cooperate with HSE University. This partnership has been developing for quite a while, with the first memorandum signed on June 30, 2011, followed by two agreements on student mobility.
The Chinese delegation’s visit included meetings with representatives and heads of various departments at HSE University. The parties discussed the opportunities for closer cooperation and a number of key issues, including joint educational and scientific projects, as well as signing of a new all-university framework agreement on cooperation.
HSE University Vice Rector Victoria Panova welcomed the delegation and commented that long-term fruitful cooperation between the two leading universities has made a significant contribution to the joint education for specialists of the highest level, while also contributing to better mutual understanding between our countries. Furthermore, Vice Rector Panova stressed that China is not only an important strategic partner for HSE University, but also a good friend. In addition, Ksenia Shevtsova, Head of HSE University’s International Partnerships Office, added that comprehensive strategic cooperation between Russia and China will continue to develop, as well as the role of education in the humanities.
Bei Wenli, Deputy Director of the Center for Russian Studies at the East China Normal University, thanked his Russian colleagues for the meeting and noted that HSE University has been one of the main partners of the East China Normal University for more than 10 years. ‘We are developing different forms of cooperation: student exchange programmes, joint research projects, and joint scientific conferences. We are proud to have such a partner,’ he noted. Professor Wenli also invited HSE University representatives to take part in joint events in 2024 dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China.
The representatives of the two universities discussed further steps in developing cooperation, including launching double-degree programmes, creating joint research centres and laboratories covering such fields as economics, banking, international relations, foreign language studies, biotechnology and AI, as well as issues of global academic mobility.
At the end of the meeting, the participants took part in a joint photo session, exchanged souvenirs and took a tour around the HSE University campus on Pokrovsky Bulvar.
The East China Normal University is a state university, which was founded in 1951 in Shanghai through the merger of the Great China University (est. 1924) and Kwang Hua University (est. 1925). In 2017, the East China Normal University was included on the Chinese government’s list of 36 A Class universities (Double First Class University Plan). Furthermore, the East China Normal University ranks 511th in the world according to QS and 31st in China itself according to ARWU.

Russia and China: A New Cooperation Trajectory Developed at HSE University

Russia and China, both of which have significantly reduced poverty in recent years, demonstrate a unique potential for joint efforts in this area. At an international forum in Kazan titled ‘SPROUTS: Russia and China–Mutually Beneficial Cooperation,’ HSE University representatives, including Vice Rector and initiator of the Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre Lilia Ovcharova, and Deputy Vice Rector Maria Nagernyak, emphasised the importance of integrating the efforts of the two countries.

HSE University Enhances Cooperation with Top Universities in China
A delegation from HSE University paid a working visit to China, meeting with representatives from leading universities in Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai. Delegates from several HSE departments, including the International College of Economics and Finance, the Faculty of Computer Science, the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology, the Institute of Education, and the International Partnerships Office, attended the visit. Discussions at each university focused on expanding current cooperation and identifying and creating new projects and initiatives.
HSE University and the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications Sign Cooperation Agreement
HSE University, together with its Chinese partners, will be implementing the scientific project ‘Geometry and Physics,’ which won the ‘Academic Cooperation’ competition at HSE. The International Laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms acts on behalf of HSE University. The Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA), represented by a team of renowned mathematicians including Fields medallists, will also be involved in the project.
