Faculty of Computer Science Opens Joint Department with Tinkoff
The HSE Faculty of Computer Science has opened a joint department with Tinkoff. The department will bring together the HSE FCS’s extensive research and teaching potential, alongside Tinkoff’s vast practical experience in developing complex software solutions.
Students of this department will get both extensive mathematical training and essential skills in industrial development. A key area of cooperation will be the opportunity to participate in Tinkoff’s research projects.
The department courses will enrol about 80 students annually, who will get internships at Tinkoff, with the best-achieving students invited for interview at Tinkoff.
Ivan Arzhantsev, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science
This integration of academia and industry brings great opportunities for students to get relevant knowledge and skills that will be helpful both at the start of their careers, and in all their future work. Classes that include not only theoretical knowledge, but real examples of its application, and teachers who can share their practical experience, — this is all very useful. Attracting this kind of teacher is one of the key goals of this type of cooperation between the Faculty of Computer Science and IT industry leaders.
Studies at the department start during the third year of the bachelor’s programme and continue for two years, until graduation. Leading experts from Tinkoff will teach at the department, which is headed by Andrey Ivanov, Head of the Advertising Technology Department at Tinkoff.
Konstantin Markelov, Vice President, Director for Business Technologies, Tinkoff
Regular knowledge and experience exchange between businesses and universities is vital to ensure future professionals get fundamental knowledge alongside relevant skills training and are ready to work on real-life projects. That’s why we try to maintain close cooperation with the country’s strongest higher education institutions. We have been cooperating with HSE University for several years, and we regularly launch new educational programmes for secondary school students, university students, and recent graduates. Launching a joint department is an important step in reinforcing our relations.
Students in the department will get involved in real project work, obtaining knowledge and skills that will undoubtedly be useful in the future. Those wishing to pursue careers in academia will be able to participate in Tinkoff’s research activities.
Key areas of Tinkoff’s research activities:
Software design and development models in different areas of application;
Design and development of distributed applications and fail-safe systems;
Data analysis methods in various areas of application;
Recommender systems.
