Five HSE Master's Programmes Included in Top 100 of QS Business Masters Rankings
This year, the Master’s Programme ‘Strategic Management in Logistics’, offered by the HSE Graduate School of Business, ranked 34th in the Supply Chain Management Programme ranking, a new addition to the QS Business Masters Rankings. This is the fifth HSE programme to be included the QS Business Rankings. Four others have ranked among the top 100 for several years now.
In the QS Business Rankings in business analytics and marketing, the HSE master’s programmes, ‘Big Data Systems’ and ‘Marketing Communications and Advertising in Contemporary Business’ (both of which are offered by the Graduate School of Business) have retained their respective positions among the best Master’s programmes.
In the Masters in Finance ranking, the HSE’s MSc in Financial Economics, offered by the ICEF, ranked 89th out of 166 programmes. In the Masters in Management ranking, International Business master’s programme offered by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs took 93rd place out of 148 programmes.
Viktor Sergeev, Academic Supervisor, Master's Programme ‘Strategic Management of Logistics and Supply Chains in the Digital Economy’
Our programme is an exclusive innovative educational product unrivalled in Russia, the CIS, and Baltic countries. The aim of the programme is to train highly qualified logistics professionals—integral logistics managers, supply chain coordinators, analysts, and researchers who know the international methods of strategic logistics and supply chain management in various sectors of the economy based on an integral paradigm and the use of innovative digital technologies. Students gain valuable skills in digital logistics strategy development, including innovative logistics technologies for business; they gain an understanding of and master methods of risk and problem management in global supply chains; they learn the tools for optimizing material, information, and financial flows; and they learn the methods of implementing organizational change and digital transformation of supply chains.
Vasily Kornilov, Academic Supervisor, Master’s Programme ‘Big Data Systems’
Our master's programme consistently ranks well in the QS Business Analytics Ranking, and HSE University is the only Russian university represented in the ranking.
QS is a ranking that considers a variety of criteria when measuring the success of a programme. Therefore, our high standing is a result of our shared efforts—the administration, our teachers, our programme managers and programme office, our corporate partners, and, first and foremost, our students and alumni.
To take a worthy place among the best is wonderful, but it is even better to become the best among the best, to rank among the top programmes. Of course, this is not easy to achieve, but this is what we all strive for—to provide quality education to our students and to provide our graduates with the opportunity to take prestigious positions in the labour market.
Yulia Pirogova, Academic Supervisor, Master’s Programme ‘Marketing Communications and Advertising in Contemporary Business’
Among the best programme indicators noted in the ranking are, in particular, the percentage of graduates gainfully employed, as well as alumni achievements. The master's programme in Marketing Communications was launched at HSE University in 2009 under the guidance of Professor Mikhail Nazarov. Over the years, many graduates of this programme have made a name for themselves and achieved outstanding success by becoming CEOs and partners of communication agencies, establishing their own businesses in Internet marketing, advertising, and PR, and taking solid positions in large Russian and international companies in the B2C and B2B markets.
A new stage in the development of this master's programme began in 2020, when it merged with the Marketing programme and we launched the new programme in Marketing: Digital Technology and Marketing Communications at the HSE Graduate School of Business.
Maxim Nikitin, Academic Supervisor, Master’s Programme ‘Financial Economics’
Our programme is unique in Russia in that it provides fundamental training in economics and finance. It opens doors for graduates to work in the financial system, the real sector and consulting, as well as to continue their education by enrolling in leading PhD programmes. A key feature of the programme is its international format: it was created and is implemented in cooperation with the London School of Economics (LSE).
Irina Kratko, Academic Supervisor, Master’s Programme ‘International Business’
Of course, it is an honour to maintain our position in the prestigious top 100 of the QS World Rankings, especially when the number of strong and ambitious competitors grows every year. But in terms of our programme’s particular ranking, the main reward is getting the highest possible score (100 out of 100 points) for the third time in a row in the category of graduate employment. This means that the mission of the ‘International Business’ programme is being achieved. Professional development and success is the most important indicator of a programme’s success. This result, in turn, is predetermined by the practice-oriented content of the programme and its unique integration into the real business sphere. Congratulations to all of our MIB teachers, alumni, and students for such a high assessment of our programme.
The QS Business Masters Rankings—in particular, the rankings in management, marketing, finance, and business analytics—have been published annually for four years. 2020 marks the first year of the ranking in supply chain management. The methodology for rating master's programmes differs significantly from those used in the QS institutional and subject rankings, though it primarily utilizes data obtained by these rankings. The ranking is based on 5 indicators, each scored on a scale of 1 to 100 points: employability, alumni outcomes, value for money, thought leadership, and class & faculty diversity. The quantitative indicators are calculated from the following sources: university data, surveys of employers and academic experts, Scopus, top management lists (Forbes and more than 150 other similar lists), and the Mercer Cost of Living City Index.
