HSE Alumnus Wins Global Education Grant
Artem Stafeev, who received his bachelor's in Software Engineering in 2014, has become the first HSE representative to win a state grant to study at a foreign university as part of the new governmental programme Global Education.
Global Education is a government-sponsored programme established by a resolution of the Russian government in June 2014. The programme uses funds from Russia’s budget to pay for 1,500 Russian students to study at some of the world’s best universities in areas that are considered critical to the Russian economy. The programme’s participants are then expected to find work at Russian companies and organizations.
The first round of the grant competition took place in the fall of 2014, and Artem Stafeev was one of its winners. Artem started in HSE’s undergraduate software engineering programme in 2010, and he is now pursuing his Master’s in Computer Science at the University of Southern California (U.S.).
‘Studying abroad is always an interesting experience that offers new opportunities irrespective of whether or not you plan on returning to Russia or trying to work abroad. HSE gives its students everything necessary to be able to compete in any country and in any field. The main thing is to start the application process early and demonstrate what you want in the future,’ Artem Stafeev comments.
Any Russian who has a bachelor’s or specialist’s degree can apply for a grant as long as he or she has been admitted to or is already studying in a master’s, post-graduate, or residency programme abroad in one of the programme’s five priority fields (science, education, medicine, engineering, and social management). The list of leading foreign universities that the grant may cover includes 227 universities in 27 countries around the world.
Registration for the next round of the competition began on March 23 and will last until June 2015.
