An HSE University delegation led by Rector Nikita Anisimov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Singapore to Russia Néo Ek Beng Mark at the HSE campus on Pokrovsky Bulvar. The parties discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation and promising areas of partnership.

HSE University has already established academic contacts with four leading universities in Singapore: the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore University of Technology and Design, and Singapore Management University, which take the top four positions in the country according to the QS World University Ranking 2025. A memorandum of understanding and a student exchange agreement are currently in effect between the Singapore Management University, the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, and the HSE Graduate School of Business.

HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov spoke to Néo Ek Beng Mark about the university, presenting it as an expert platform and workplace for Russian and international professors. ‘HSE is one of the best universities in Russia,’ he stressed. ‘According to rankings of the quality of education and graduate employability, we are among the leaders. In international rankings of young universities, we are in the top 35 according to the QS Top 50 Under 50, and this is a good result for us. We also placed 87th in the THE Young Universities Ranking.’

The rector also highlighted that HSE has long been more than an economic university: today, more than 300 degree programmes, including STEM fields, are represented across its faculties. ‘Mathematics, history, philosophy, law, sociology, business, management, and much more. We have excellent knowledge in the field of computer science. For example, in April 2024, two of our teams became world champions at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). This is the best result among all Russian universities,’ he said.

Nikita Anisimov expressed hope that HSE University will launch joint programmes with leading universities in Singapore as part of academic mobility for students and teachers. He believes that the parties will also establish academic cooperation, since universities in Russia and Singapore pursue the same goals.

It was interesting to learn about your current research directions, which areas you cover, and where you are looking in order to understand the mutual benefits we can share and what we can learn from you,’ said the ambassador. He also noted that establishing cooperation step by step is a shared interest of the parties that is worth working on.
