HSE Yachters Win Regatta in 28th Moscow Student Games
HSE team beat teams from 12 Moscow universities, opening the 28th Moscow Student Games.
Weather conditions made the six runs in the regatta in LASER Olympic class sister yachts on Klyazma reservoir particularly challenging. The teams from HSE, MSU and the Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering, had a difficult time dealing with the strong winds from Kotovsky Bay, but still managed to win places among the top 10 and be awarded prize positions.
HSE’s sailing team won first place, and its victory was thanks to students Daria Startseva, Marina Kravchenko, and Danila Smirnov, who finished second, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
HSE’s sailing history started with the Yacht Club, which was formed over 40 years ago and is thriving today. On completing theoretical and practical tasks, HSE students receive certificates to sail yachts. Winter studies are mainly theoretical. Students learn the basics of navigation, study the rules and regulations of sailing and sluicing. In spring, practical classes start again on yachts. And after the summer exams, the novices are sent out under experienced team captains to test their practical and theoretical knowledge – learned over the winter. The HSE Yacht Club is based at Strogino.
