How HSE Is Transitioning to Distance Learning and Helping Others Do the Same
Conducting online lectures and research seminars on Zoom, providing assistance and useful instructions to the university community—all this is necessary for a smooth transition to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past two weeks, various HSE departments have done all of this in order to provide their students with online instruction. The IT Office particularly felt the weight of this large task. HSE News spoke with digital service staff about what they have managed to do in such a short time frame.
Changes to HSE Summer University Dates
The coronavirus is strong, but together we are stronger. Let’s take care and stay safe, so that we can all soon embrace each other again. Due to recent travel and visa restrictions, as well as in the interest of students' health, the 2020 HSE Summer University session dates have been changed. Programme sessions will now begin on July 15 and conclude on August 20.
HSE University and Rosstat Sign Collaboration Agreement
HSE University and Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) will organize working groups on issues related to statistical accounting and implement several joint research projects. On February 28, HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov and Rosstat Head Pavel Malkov signed a roadmap outlining the planned bilateral cooperation.

HSE University, represented by the Center for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector, and the United Nations Volunteer Programme (UNV) signed a partnership agreement, under which they will regularly exchange information, carry out joint research, as well as organize conferences and other events.
HSE Celebrates Korean New Year
Students of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs celebrated the Lunar New Year. The festivities, which were held at HSE’s Cultural Centre on Pokrovsky Boulevard, included a concert with traditional dance and Korean folklore skits.

HSE Academic Council Approves University Development Programme for 2030
On January 24, the HSE Academic Council approved the new University Development Programme for 2030, which the Council had been drafting for the past year. Members of the Academic Council also discussed the status of the university’s digital transformation.
A Journey of a Thousand Miles
Ruoqi Cao, from Harbin, China, graduated from HSE University’s Masters’ programme in International Business. She is now working on her PhD at the HSE Institute of Education, where her research focuses on the influence of higher education on the economics of the regions in Russia and China. She has shared with HSE News Service her story of coming to study and work in Russia.
New Recording Studio Opens at HSE University
The digitalization of education would be impossible without the introduction of new technologies. FBM’s modern video studio—based on Jalinga software that Russian specialists created for distance learning—enables teachers and students to record lectures and transmit online broadcasts unassisted.
