The acquisition of new venues can improve the conditions for studies and research at these campuses.

The total number of students at HSE in St. Petersburg has grown twice over the last three years, leading to a deficit of suitable study venues. In addition, the campus has opened the St. Petersburg School of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science, which requires many computer classes for its lectures and workshops.

However, the situation will improve thanks to the acquisition of 4,000 square metres on Kantemirovskaya Ulitsa. This venue includes a five-story annex attached to the existing HSE building at 3 Kantemirovskaya Ulitsa, Korpus 1-A. Since the previous owner lent the venue to various companies for administrative purposes, the building requires an overhaul. The plan is to start the operation of these buildings in September 2020.

Over 2,400 students study at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod every year, and the total number of study and laboratory venues per student is insufficient. To address this issue, HSE has acquired a complex of venues with total space coming to 3.8 sq. m on Kostina Ulitsa. The building is located in the historic city centre, near a metro station, and within a 15-min drive via public transport from other HSE academic buildings in the Nizhegorodsky District.

The venues on Kostina Ulitsa were initially study classes and laboratories (the building hosted the Nizhny Novgorod Law Academy), and are completely ready to hold classes and sessions. Furthermore, there are lecture classes, computer classes, a gym, a cafeteria, a library and so on. The building is also equipped with the necessary security systems and special lifts for people in wheelchairs. Furthermore, the facades and interiors have been kept in satisfactory condition.

The funds for the acquisition of these buildings were assigned to HSE following an order issued by the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation.

HSE Moves Closer to the City Centre

This year, many students and staff of HSE in Moscow will change the location of their study and work. Instead of some sites in districts on the outskirts of the sity, the university is using buildings in the centre. In addition to that, faculty departments which are now scattered in various parts of the city will move closer to each other. This will allow lecturers and students to spend less time commuting.
