HSE University Now Accepting Applications from International Students
International students who are interested in applying to a bachelor’s or master’s programme at HSE University for Fall 2020 may now do so online.

HSE University offers dozens of bachelor's and master's programmes. HSE boasts a vibrant international student community with students not only from the post-Soviet space, but all over the world.
Wide choice of subjects and programmes
Although HSE stands for the ‘Higher School of Economics’, HSE has long been a multidisciplinary university offering programmes in the social sciences, humanities, STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, and geography). Faculty partner and co-organising institutions include the Russian Academy of Sciences and Yandex, Russia’s largest tech company.
Students can choose from a wide range of Russian-taught and English-taught programmes, as well as dual-degree options at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Academic mobility opportunities
Students may also study abroad in one of the numerous exchange programmes HSE offers in cooperation with leading partner universities throughout the world.
Modern campus in the heart of the city
HSE University campuses feature modern infrastructure and comfortable study conditions. The majority of HSE University Moscow campus buildings are located in the city centre, within walking distance of one another. While walking from one complex to another, students can admire the beautiful sights of Moscow. And the state-of-the-art campus complex located on Pokrovsky Boulevard, connected by a large atrium, provides excellent shelter in inclement weather. That is where HSE’s multi-level library, which is open 24/7, is located.

You may also explore HSE’s programme catalogue, filtering the programmes by your preferred language of instruction (English or Russian), campus, or field and mode of study.
How to Apply to a Bachelor’s Programme
Prospective undergraduate students may apply in one of two ways:
1. Compete in intellectual contests such as:
— the Global Scholarship Competition (registration for the 2020 competition has already been completed). Winners and prize-winners of the competition receive full-tuition scholarships;
— the International Economics Olympiad;
— other international events (detailed information available on International Admissions website).
2. Apply in the separate international student admissions campaign. Students must pass at least two exams, which may be taken either in person or remotely via proctoring.
Note that you can only apply to TWO programmes.

How to Apply to a Master’s Programme
Master’s programme applicants can apply in one of two ways:
1. By competing in the Open Doors Russian Scholarship Project. Registration for the Open Doors competition is open until December 15, 2019. Olympiad winners will receive full-tuition scholarships.
2. By submitting a portfolio and application as part of the international student admissions campaign (each programme has its own portfolio requirements. Check programme websites for more information).

How to Receive Financial Assistance
The majority of international students receive financial aid or scholarships, which cover 25%-100% of tuition costs. Students may receive scholarships at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels.
Scholarship award amounts are dependent upon an applicant’s Olympiad performance, entrance exam scores, portfolio, and other factors.
I Got in to HSE. Where Will I Live?
All students who are not from the city of Moscow are provided lodging in one of HSE University's 12 dormitories. The monthly dormitory fee is no more than 1800 roubles a month. Other HSE campuses also offer accommodation in dormitories.

Two Additional HSE – Moscow Programmes Receive International ZEvA Accreditation

How Will the New Academic Year Start for International Students?
Classes will begin on-campus on September 1 (for some graduate programmes on October 1), and wearing masks in university buildings and dormitories will be mandatory for all students and teachers. HSE University will arrange online learning with mandatory support from professors for newly enrolled international students who are currently unable to travel to Russia.
